What Is Name Numerology?
Name numerology assigns a number to every letter of your name and adds them together to reveal patterns believed to reflect your personality and life path. This calculator computes three core numbers from your name — your Destiny Number (from every letter, revealing your life purpose), your Soul Urge Number (from the vowels, revealing your inner desires), and your Personality Number (from the consonants, revealing how others perceive you) — plus an optional Life Path Number from your date of birth.
Pythagorean vs. Chaldean — What's the Difference?
The Pythagorean system is the most common system used today, assigning numbers 1–9 to letters in simple alphabetical sequence (A=1, B=2 ... I=9, then repeating). The Chaldean system is older, originating in ancient Babylon, and assigns numbers based on each letter's sound vibration rather than alphabetical order — it also leaves out the number 9, considered too sacred to assign to a letter. Both are legitimate traditional systems; try both to compare your results.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is name numerology scientifically accurate?
No — like astrology, numerology is not scientifically validated. This calculator applies the real, standard letter-to-number systems (Pythagorean and Chaldean) correctly, but the meanings behind the numbers are a belief system, not a tested science.
What are Master Numbers?
11, 22, and 33 are "Master Numbers" — when a calculation reduces to one of these, it is traditionally kept unreduced instead of being added down to a single digit, since they're considered to carry extra significance (11 = intuition, 22 = the Master Builder, 33 = the Master Teacher).
Does a nickname or married name change my number?
Yes. Traditionally, numerologists use your full birth name for Destiny, Soul Urge, and Personality numbers, since that's considered your "true" numerological signature — but you're welcome to try a nickname or current name too for a different (and interesting) comparison.
Why do Pythagorean and Chaldean give different results?
They use different letter-to-number tables — Pythagorean follows simple alphabetical order, while Chaldean is based on ancient sound-vibration associations and excludes the number 9. Getting different numbers from each is completely normal.
Pythagorean letter values follow the standard modern numerology system (A–I = 1–9, repeating), as commonly documented across numerology references and consistent with the system popularized in the West since the early 20th century.
Chaldean letter values follow the traditional ancient Babylonian/Chaldean sound-vibration system, which excludes the number 9, as commonly documented across numerology references.
Master Number (11, 22, 33) handling follows standard numerology convention of not reducing these totals further.
